Easter in the Snowy Mountains – Day 2

Following a huge first day, we wake early the next morning to almost freezing temperatures, and a layer of fairly magical fog. Despite sleeping on some pretty hard ground, we’ve had a deep sleep – I think we can thank the beautiful fast flowing Swampy Plains River. Again, we’ve got another big day ahead of us, so we pack up early.

It’s an early morning start as we hit the road to Cooma. I’ve dedicated half the Easter long weekend to study, and the first half to play. We’ve planned an ambitious two day round trip and I’ve got us to a strict schedule.

Revisiting Mount Kosciuszko

With visiting parents, I thought it might be quite lovely to take them down (and up) to see Mt Kosciuszko. We’d sworn ‘never again’ to the Main Range Track walk (>20km) which we’d done in early January, but had thoroughly enjoyed the scenery and thought it would be a nice tourist spot. We settled on taking the chairlift up from Thredbo (we’d walked from Charlottes Pass on the previous occasion) and walking the 13km return track from there.

Main Range Track in the Snowy Mountains

Summer months = hiking, in T1’s world. Winter months also mean hiking, but there’s not as much on offer in the winter months. In particular, it’s quite difficult to hike the Snowy Mountains in the winter!
