Truffled brie at Mt Majura Vineyard

7 Aug

For all my love of Canberra wineries, I’d never been to Mt Majura Vineyard. And, despite enjoying a truffle degustation at Benchmark Wine Bar, I felt I hadn’t quite had my truffle fix. So, you can imagine hearing that Mt Majura was offering truffled brie as part of the Fireside Festival more than piqued my interest!

Parliament House

4 Aug

Somehow, I missed out on the obligatory Year 7 trip to Canberra, and had never visited Canberra until I moved here. So, my very first glimpse of Parliament House was the day I arrived, and visiting it was high on my to do list. My Parliament House tour remains one of my most vivid memories. Five and a half years later, I’ve spent plenty of time there, but it’s never been less awe inspiring than that first trip. Treasures Gallery and Bookplate

21 Jul

There are so many tourist places I’ve never visited in Canberra, or which I only visited properly once, when I first moved here. Bicicletta had been getting some rave reviews, and when searching for a place to dine for in the dying days of 2012, it jumped to mind.

As part of the Wine, roses and all that jazz festival last weekend, Lark Hill Winery hosted workshops on pale ale and sparkling wine making, and offered a competition on Twitter on Friday evening with five free tickets. In The Taratory was fortunate enough to win!

Surveyor’s Hill winery

6 Jun

This past Saturday, the weather was atrocious. In Winter, we’re usually spared rain and just have to put up with chill-you-to-the-bone winds with the icy weather. But Saturday we got the cold weather, the biting winds and a whole heap of cold, cold rain.

I was desperate to go shopping, but knew with the weather that simply everyone in Canberra would be at the shops and if it wasn’t impossible to get a park, it would definitely be impossible to walk around. What to do in rainy weather when one doesn’t want to deal with crowds? Go to a winery, of course!
