Enlighten 2014: Deviator*

27 Feb

The 2014 Enlighten program has a lot of very cool events… it’s hard to know where to start. I’m invited to tech run/preview the Museum of Australian Democracy’s event Deviator and I can’t help but agree – at the very least to find out exactly what it’s all about! My initial impression is that it’s a bit of a ‘treasure hunt’ but rather than finding things, it’s doing things a little out of the norm… and right in our Parliamentary Triangle. I’m not far wrong!

First look at Enlighten Canberra 2014

27 Feb

Enlighten Canberra 2014 looks set to be an absolute cracker again. I loved 2013 and there looks to be a lot to love for 2014. I was in the area for another Enlighten event and took a moment to take a few snaps… get excited!

Bright and exciting!

My favourite institution which displayed projections last year was the National Library… I think it’s my early favourite again!

Like the National Gallery, the National Library uses its Mapping Our World theme - and wonderfully

Old Parliament House is always a huge feat with projections stretching across the long building. The “Guys and Polls” montage is excellent.

Royal Canberra Show*

23 Feb

I’d never been to the ACTEWAGL Royal Canberra Show. Something about the idea of it’s never quite clicked for me – I think it might be that all the shows in Queensland are connected with a public holiday, so in my mind a show that isn’t probably isn’t that special or big . I’m glad to say that I’ve been proven wrong!

Bald Archy exhibition, Watson Arts Centre

2 Feb

There’s the Archibald Prize… and then there’s the Bald Archy Prize. Both prizes focus on the best portrait, but the Bald Archy lacks the seriousness of the Archibald, with its emphasis on Australians portrayed in satirical form. While it started off as a joke, the Bald Archy has become a popular competition in its own right, and is first exhibited in a town which also doesn’t take itself too seriously…

Coming Up in 2014 #2

22 Jan

I didn’t expect that the second of these posts would come around so soon, but there’s so much on at the moment to tell you about! A number of the things I wrote about in the first post haven’t come around just yet, so head there for even more ideas.

Easter in the Snowy Mountains – Day 1

6 Jun

It’s an early morning start as we hit the road to Cooma. I’ve dedicated half the Easter long weekend to study, and the first half to play. We’ve planned an ambitious two day round trip and I’ve got us to a strict schedule.

A day (and night!) at the cricket

Lights + Manuka Oval + a handful of tickets left = a genius Christmas present for my dad (and an opportunity to see him outside of my usual trip home for Christmas).
